Pat Boone Biography
Pat Boone is an American singer, composer, actor, writer, television personality, motivational speaker, and spokesman. During the 1950s and early 1960s, Boone was a very successful pop singer in the United States.
According to Billboard, Pat was the second-biggest charting artist of the late 1950s. He was behind Elvis Presley. Boone was ranked at No. 9 in its listing of the Top 100 Top 40 Artists 1955–1995. He sold more than 45 million records, had 38 top-40 hits. He has appeared in more than 12 Hollywood films.

Boone attended David Lipscomb High School in Nashville, where he graduated in 1952. He later proceeded to David Lipscomb College and then Lipscomb University in Nashville.
Boone graduated from Columbia University School of General Studies magna cum laude in 1958. This was after previously having attended North Texas State University, now known as the University of North Texas, in Denton, Texas.

Boone began his career in Nashville’s Centennial Park by performing. Later in 1954, he started recording for Republic Records and in 1955, he was recording foir for Dot Records. He did his own version of Fats Domino’s “Ain’t That a Shame” in 1955 and it was a hit.
In 1956, Boone did a second cover which was a number-one single. The song was a revival of a then seven-year-old song “I Almost Lost My Mind”, by Ivory Joe Hunter. Boone also made regular appearances on ABC-TV’s Ozark Jubilee, which was hosted by his father-in-law.
In the late 195os, Boone won himself a long-term product endorsement contract from General Motors which lasted through the 1960s. Boone also succeeded Dinah Shore singing the praises of the GM product: “See the USA in your Chevrolet … drive your Chevrolet through the USA, America’s the greatest land of all!”

When Pat was 19 years old, in November 1953, he married Shirley Lee Foley, a Chicago-born Tennesseean who was also 19 years old at the time. Shirley was a daughter to country music great Red Foley and his wife, singer Judy Martin. Shirley was a lesser known recording artist and television personality than her husband.

By the time Pat and his wife were 23 years old, they had four daughters; Cheryl “Cherry” Lynn, Linda “Lindy” Lee, Deborah “Debby” Ann, and Laura “Laury” Gene.
Shirley however, passed away on January 11, 2019, aged 84 years old, at her Beverly Hills home from complications from vasculitis. When she passed away, Pat described her as a true Proverbs 31 wife; “A virtuous woman whose worth is far above rubies.”
He went on to say, “I’ve parted with my better half for a little while … but we don’t die, we just move on to another place, and today was moving day. She’s changed her address, is all and moved to a different mansion that I expect to join her in one day.”
